South Saskatchewan's multi-million dollar irrigation scheme is to bring new prosperity to the dust bowl of the prairies. Here is a vivid account of how, in 1961, a section of the South Saskatchewan River was turned into a lake 220 km long in order to irrigate thousands of drought-plagued acres and provide electricity for industry and farms.
