This title is an acquisition.
The first hominids start to tame fire. Long cut off by glaciers or oceans, some hominids evolved into new species: Java Man and Neanderthal Man. The first known tombs date from this period 100,000 years ago, proof of an early belief in the "hereafter."
On the European continent, Neanderthal Man was confronted with the arrival of th first modern humans, known as Homo sapiens. Less fitted for survival, Java and Neanderthal Man disappeared, leaving Homo sapiens as the sole representative of the genus for 30,000 years.
Early humans began a new period of expansion, conquering the Americas and sailing as far as Australia. They created new tools, dreamed up new rites and "invented" art.
10,000 years ago, the conquest of imaginary and spiritual domains led Homo sapiens to settle, growing plants, domesticating animals and building towns. This marked the end of prehistory.
