His canvases glow in a profusion of colour, fantastic forms at once bewildering and delightful, with texture and dimension that make clear why a contemporary of Alfred Pellan described him as 'master of all the insights of surrealism.' This film shows many of his paintings, some from the galleries of Paris, others from his early years in Québec. But the film is an appreciation of the man as much as of his work. At the end of it we know his humour, his ebullience, and the high regard in which he is held.
