Produced by the National Film Board of Canada in co-production with Améri Ka Productions.
Made famous in 1971 by the success of La Sagouine and achieving international celebrity on winning the Prix Goncourt for Pélagie-la-Charrette in 1979, Antonine Maillet has been the mouthpiece of the Acadian people throughout the world for fifty years.
Ginette Pellerin’s film invites viewers to accompany the writer to the important places in her life, from Bouctouche to Montreal by way of Moncton and the Théâtre du Rideau Vert. It combines her confidences to the filmmaker with readings from her works and interviews with publishers, professors, journalists and actors. Antonine Maillet, who has rarely spoken of herself with such candour and generosity, has given us an unforgettable autobiography.
