A look at life in the frigid zones of our northern hemisphere, in many lands from Alaska to the Finnish Lapland. This feature-length documentary is a study of how humans have conquered the cold. It shows not only recent technological developments but also how the quality of life has improved, even flourished, in some of the older settlements of the sub-Arctic. Surprising in almost every sequence, the film is alive with the vitality and unique character of the North.
