Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party, provincially and federally, thirteenth prime minister of Canada, Leader of the Opposition, Member of Parliament, John George Diefenbaker's political career spanned six decades. When he died in August, 1979, his state funeral and final train trip west across the land he loved became more a celebration of life than a victory for death. By interweaving scenes from past and present, the film crafts a moving tribute to an illustrious Canadian and records how a nation paused to pay homage to "The Chief."
