Each year future officers of the Royal Canadian Navy--cadets enrolled in the Tri-Services Regular Officers Training Plan and the R.C.N. Venture Plan--go down to the sea in ships. Months of drill and classroom instruction suddenly take on new significance as they feel the roll of decks beneath them and the limitless sea around. This film tells the story of the first cruise of a company of cadets outward bound for the South Pacific aboard H.M.C.S. Ontario. It shows their tactical exercises aboard ship, their off-duty activities, and stop-overs at exotic ports of call.
