A graphic, highly engaging view of the age of the eastern pine tree, when all the valleys north of the Ottawa River rang with axes and the crashes of towering trees. The film, by skillfully animating old photographs and engravings, recalls the woods operations of the roistering shantymen and the rafting of the squared timbers down the Ottawa and the St. Lawrence rivers to the ships waiting at Québec.
