In her work as an artist in an advertising agency Françoise has found success without really wanting it. Her competence has won the approval of her employer but also the overt hostility of other employees, male and female. For Françoise, work is an escape from a domestic role she finds hollow and unsatisfying, but a career outside her home does not seem to be enough to fill the vacuum in her life.
