The eastern coastline of Canada, battered by the Atlantic Ocean, is a place where all life fights for a foothold amid vistas of unparalleled beauty. The "barren wastes" of Labrador are deceptive, for there is a wealth of wildlife: polar bear, walrus, caribou and wolves thrive here. Between Labrador and Newfoundland is the beautiful stretch of sea known as iceberg alley. The rugged Newfoundland cliffs are popular with seabirds, from common murres to Atlantic puffins. The St. Lawrence River and the Saguenay, with tributaries that reach far back inland, make a welcome stopover for migrating geese.
