Guardian Ancestors explores long-time Spryfield resident Janet Kidston's search for the meaning of the spirits in her house and the significance of knowing one's heritage.

Guardian Ancestors is one of four short documentaries to emerge from "Discover Spryfield" - part of the national "Action for Neighbourhood Change" program, produced by the NFB in collaboration with the United Way, Tamarack and the Caledon Institute for Social Policy.

"Discover Spryfield" was introduced to the community as a media training opportunity open to all residents. Through the program, they learn to use media in order to discover something new about the community. The process also allowed new relationships to form among citizens who might not otherwise meet. Participants formed four different groups - based on their interests - with each group producing a short documentary.
