Since the late 1960s, a number of different attempts at solving housing problems in Maseru, Lesotho's capital, have been made. Mohalatitoe, the first in that South African city, was a venture in cooperative housing and although it was not totally successful, its managing organization, the Lower Income Housing Company (Lehco-op), was. Lessons from Lesotho shows how Lehco-op has evolved; it no longer initiates housing co-ops, but now provides low-cost houses through site and service projects.
