Internationally renowned stage director and choreographer Brian Macdonald is featured in this exhilarating look at behind-the-scenes activity as Canada's world-famous Stratford Festival Theatre mounts three Gilbert and Sullivan operettas for its 1984 season. Musical Magic follows Macdonald, who also narrates the film, through a hectic schedule of rehearsals and consultations with designers. Excerpts from Iolanthe, The Gondoliers and The Mikado, as well as scenes from a gala performance at London's refurbished Old Vic, with Princess Anne in attendance, highlight this hour-long documentary.
