The sound of showtime is the heartbeat of Paul Anka's life. He fully fits his skin only when the lights are on him.

In homage to the 1962 National Film Board documentary Lonely Boy, Paul Anka: Destiny intercuts black-and-white scenes of the teen idol preparing for a performance in Atlantic City with colour footage of today's sophisticated entertainer wowing the crowds in Las Vegas.

He was just 17 years old when his smash hit Diana propelled him onto the international pop scene. This revealing biography explores how Anka became a link to the cultural history of several generations and periods--from the early rock'n'rollers to the "golden era of Vegas," to the feminist movement of the '70's.

Anka is a true dichotomy: a hard-nosed businessman who keeps his personal life under wraps, yet moves audiences with soul-baring, sentimental love songs. Destiny features candid recollections by Anka, behind-the-scenes clips from his concerts and poignant reminiscences by family and friends. They offer glimpses into the life of a songwriter and performer who has provoked both adoration and criticism. And after nearly five decades, Anka is still on top of his game--a true survivor of generations of musical tastes and trends.
