A human interest story of life in the industrial city of Shawinigan, Québec, in the early 1950s. The film centres on a French-Canadian family, and through their concerns and pleasures are seen the many facets of life in this modern industrial community. Glimpses are seen of the multitude of industries deriving their power from the St. Maurice River hydroelectric developments, and of the growing business of local merchants. A typical Shawinigan Saturday night concludes the film--with a wedding reception and an exciting hockey game.
