Red Star Alley - 3 bottle gourd (hulu) seeds witness the life of local residents leading up to the demolition of Red Star Alley, a historic neighbourhood on the east side of Beijing. Hothouse is a 12-week mentorship program for emerging Canadian filmmaking talent. It provides real-world animation production experience in the unique tradition of the NFB. Key aspects include the active participation of an experienced mentoring director, a team of NFB technical and post-production experts, and an emphasis on the role of producers as creative partners. The program is named after horticultural hothouses where gardeners create optimal growing conditions to encourage the blossoming of exotic fruits and flowers in weeks vs months.
