Up the beautiful Saint John valley from the port of Saint John to Edmundston at the head of the river. History is always with us in this Maritime area--Saint John reminds us of Champlain, of the coming of the Loyalists; Fredericton, the capital, in its Centennial celebrations recalls its early days as a British garrison town; and up-river in Madawaska County we see the old handicrafts of the French settlers. Modern farming methods, a booming pulp-mill and New Brunswick's salmon fishing show life in this area of fertile fields and flowing waters.
