Malawi is an independent African nation whose people are spread over the country in isolated communities linked only by primitive means of transportation. The Malawi government decided a railway system was needed to unite its people and to encourage trade and commerce. It asked Canada, a country with a century of railroad expertise to its credit, to help. Tale of An Iron Snake describes the Malawi Railways Development Project's goals and achievements.
