This is a portrait of the author who, with the publication of Barometer Rising in 1941, set a precedent in Canadian literature by writing about Canadian topics and places. In so doing, he paved the way for a thriving national literary movement. The film features several readings from MacLennan's work and, through still photographs, archival footage and interviews with the author, traces seven decades of his public and private lives.
