Barbara Parsons is a recently hired employee with the company where Michael Blais has worked for nineteen years. Still, when a supervisor announces his retirement, Barbara applies for and is promoted to the position ahead of him. This film dramatizes a situation that could happen in any unionized company--the violation of a contract between management and labour--and shows the four main steps to be followed in the grievance procedure.
