The Royal Canadian Corps of Signals
195016 min 20 secFilm: Documentary
Production: Michael Spencer
Produced by the National Film Board of Canada for the Canadian Department of National Defence.
The actual procedure of receiving and sending out messages from a signals office in the field is illustrated as we see documents received, enciphered and transmitted by wireless, field phone and dispatch rider. Brief sequences of a formation commander being warned of a counter-attack, and of aircraft being directed to a target demonstrate what the speedy delivery of signals means in action. The Signal Corps' range of peacetime activities is indicated by a map of Canada showing the lines of communication it maintains across the country. Besides the teletype system, it operates the Northwest Territories and Yukon Radio System. Sole communication link with the rest of Canada, these remote northern stations also perform a valuable function in providing meteorological data.
