"This land was made for you and me..."
During the '50s and '60s, every Canadian seemed to be humming that tune. With their exuberant version of Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land," The Travellers sang their way into the hearts of everyone ... from Bonavista to Vancouver Island.
Filled with classic songs like "I's the Bye," "Tijuana Jail," and "Rock Island Line," The Travellers: This Land Is Your Land tells the largely unknown story of Canada's original folkies. Phenomenally popular in their time, the band led the folk and protest music scene, paving the way for later artists like Joni Mitchell and Bruce Cockburn.
The Travellers were formed by friends who met at a Jewish socialist summer camp and who were united by their love of music and belief in social reform. Featuring revealing interviews and archival footage from their early days of television, the video traces their career - including a 1962 tour of the USSR that ultimately led to their break-up. We also join them behind the scenes at the 2000 Mariposa Folk Festival and at a summer camp reunion, where the original Travellers come together once again for an emotional campfire sing-along.
