In its depiction of the lives and emotions of patients awaiting a lung transplant, this film captures not only the miraculous possibilities of modern medicine, but also shows how hope is the most resilient of all human qualities. There is a 70 percent transplant survival rate, but due to a great shortage of suitable donor lungs, many operations are cancelled at the last minute. When a potential donor does become available, the film crew follows the transplant team of doctors and nurses as they begin their lifesaving race against time.
