On March 15, 1977, Hubert Aquin ended his life in the gardens of Villa Maria, Montréal. He had been one of Quebec's most brilliant writers. This film revolves around two episodes in Aquin's life: the first is concerned with the dramatic events leading up to the publication of his first novel; the second recalls, through interviews, the anguish of the months preceding his suicide. An unusual montage technique intercuts excerpts from a feature film in which Aquin was the lead actor with the recollections of people who knew him well. A powerful evocation of an extraordinary man by fellow writer and filmmaker Jacques Godbout.
