War Is Not a Game

The first Geneva Convention to “regulate” war was signed in 1864. A century and a half later, armed conflicts are increasing in number across the globe and are no more “civilized” than they were. Furthermore, how can soldiers, in any country, apply these international agreements on the battlefield, where they are often in survival mode and sometimes do not even know the bases of these regulations? Lode Desmet’s documentary War Is Not a Game gives us poignant first-hand accounts interspersed with war archives, film clips and original video games, obliging us to reflect on our own values.
