Cardboard Crash (Application)

2017~ 5 minInteractive: Interactive application

In a world of self-driving cars, we hand over control to artificial intelligence that is faced with life or death decisions. How will it make these decisions? Programmers may code the algorithmic parameters, but who should design the ethical frameworks for this code? Autonomous vehicles have the advantage of sensor arrays and network connections, allowing them to make decisions based on a much larger dataset than is available to a human in a panic situation. What data should be used? Should insurance policies, age, income, net worth, social media profiles, or criminal records be taken into account? In this VR vignette, the user is slowed down to bullet-time, becoming the computer, and forced to confront a hard decision where there is plenty of data, but no easy answer.
