Doing Time

Bordeaux Jail is a men's prison in Montreal. For some of the inmates, jail acts as a catalyst that produces an urgent need to speak out, to express thoughts and feelings repressed or held back for too long.

In an intimate studio setting, with the guidance of Mohamed Lotfi, the men open up and words pour out...sometimes in the form of poetry or music. They are part of Souverains anonymes, a unique radio show broadcast once a week on community radio stations in Quebec, that can be heard elsewhere in Canada and even as far as France.

Though they may be prisoners of the past, in front of the microphone the men discover the power of their own voices. Their bodies may be imprisoned but their words are free. In English with French subtitles.
